Will I Have Many Options For Styles Of Breast Implants?
Yes, breast implants come in a variety of shapes, sizes and surface textures. Implants are available with a smooth surface or textured shell. See section on Breast Augmentation.
Is There A Chance That I May Not Be Eligible For Breast Implants?
You will be advised against breast augmentation surgery if you:
- Are pregnant or nursing.
- Have an existing pre-malignant or malignant cancer in your breast.
- Have an infection anywhere in your body that is active.
Will I Be Able To Have A Mammogram After My Breast Augmentation?
Yes. You may also want to have a mammogram before surgery to establish a baseline.
Then you should obtain yearly mammograms, starting at the age of 40.
Is It Possible For Me To Get A Silicone Allergy?
A silicone allergy is very rare. You are exposed to silicone everyday as it can be found in chewing gum, processed foods, lotions and antiperspirants.
What Will Happen To My Implants During Pregnancy?
While every woman is unique, your breasts will enlarge and go through the typical changes during pregnancy. After pregnancy and breast feeding, your breasts will go through the normal shrinking phase. Depending on how large your breasts got during pregnancy and breastfeeding and depending on the elasticity in your breast skin, you might feel as though you need a breast lift and/or revision of your implants. Typically, it is best to wait at least 4 to 6 months after pregnancy and breast feeding before undergoing any breast revision surgery.
Can I Breastfeed After My Implants?
There is a chance the breast implants may interfere with successful breastfeeding. A periareolar incision may have the most impact on reducing the ability to breastfeed successfully. However, the majority of woman with breast implants are able to breastfeed.
Why Do Some Silicone Breast Implants Rupture?
Some causes of silicone breast implant rupture include:
- Trauma
- Excessive compression
- In some cases, wear over time
